Within a year of making its debut in the auction circuit, Delhi Art Gallery is hosting its third auction at The Oberoi, New Delhi today. The lots will comprise prominent modern masters, whose work the gallery is known to extensively collect, from MF Husain and Akbar Padamsee, HA Gade to NS Bendre and Ram Kumar.

“We intend to have around four auctions every year. The aim is to reach collectors who might not otherwise want to come to gallery spaces for buying art. In addition, we want to create auction space for artists like Sohan Qadri, who are prominent but not frequent at auctions,” says Ashish Anand, director of DAG that has organised the exhibition with Outset India, an organisation that supports Indian artists and organisations.

While the total estimate is between Rs 12 crore and 18 crore, leading the auction is SH Raza’s Zameen. The 1960 canvas is estimated between
Rs 1.2 to 1.8 crore. The other significant works include GR Santosh’s 1987 acrylic Sharika (estimate 6 to 9 lakh) and Ram Kumar’s
untitled acrylic (estimate Rs 40 to 60 lakh).
