Leger, DePorter, Magazine elected to Fountain Hills council

Unofficial election results indicate incumbent Henry Leger and two newcomers appear headed for election to the Fountain Hills Town Council, while Mayor Linda Kavanagh was elected to a second term with no opposition, initial results showed Tuesday.

Leger, who has served on the council since June 2006, was the highest vote getter among council candidates. In addition, voters appeared to choose newcomers Nick DePorter and Alan Magazine to fill the two remaining council seats.

Newcomer Lina Bellenir garnered the lowest number of votes.

Current terms expire at the end of this year for Kavanagh and council members Ginny Dickey, Tait Elkie and Leger.

DePorter was the second-highest vote getter. He ran for council in 2012 and was in the runoff election with Councilmen Dennis Brown and Cecil Yates.

Leger, 66, is a retired leadership and organizational development consultant.

DePorter, 37, has lived in Fountain Hills for four years and is responsible for strategic employer development at Arizona State University.

Magazine, 69, has lived in Fountain Hills for eight years and previously held numerous positions in Washington, D.C., such as president and CEO of the Health Industry Manufacturers Association and intergovernmental relations director for the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency.

Bellenir, 65, has lived in Fountain Hills for more than 15 years. She previously owned a business in town and retired from her paralegal position with the Maricopa County Sheriff's Office.She also served as a councilwoman in Gibraltar, Mich.
