GHAZIABAD: Two cars were stolen from Nehru Nagar in the early hours of August 18, police said on Tuesday. Though CCTV footages revealed the thieves had arrived in a car themselves, and stole two cars between 3.20 am and 3.24 am, no arrests have been made yet.
Police said they have got crucial leads from the footages and will crack the case soon. "A team has been put on the job.
Several clues have been found from the footages. The carjackers will be nabbed soon," said city DSP Ranvijay Singh. The two cars stolen were a Maruti Zen, belonging to a senior citizen, Jagdish Prasad, and a Wagon R, owned by his neighbour Yogeshwar Garg.
The complainant, Jagdish Prasad (61), a retired employee, making several rounds to the police station. Apart from the local police station, Prasad claims to have informed about the incident to several senior police officials in UP.
Prasad has alleged that the carjackers made away with a WagonR and a Maruti Zen from the residential locality in between 3:20 am and 3:24 am on the night of the incident.
CCTV footages show that the carjackers had arrived at the scene in a Wagon R themselves. At 3:20 am, two boys first broke open a WagonR belonging to Prasad's neighbor Yogeshwar Garg and drove away with it. After driving for around 30-35 yards, the car stopped and a boy and wearing white clothes and white sneakers got down from it at 3:22 am. The boy, aged in between 25 to 30 years, walked over to Prasad's Maruti Zen and drove away with the car at 3:24 am.

"We called the police helpline at 6:30 am on the morning of 18 August. A PCR arrived soon thereafter and cops investigated the scene of crime. An FIR was lodged the same day in the Sihani Gate police station but no arrests have been made so far. The incident shows the impunity with which carjackers are operating in Ghaziabad," said Prasad.
Ghaziabad police, in contrast to claims made by the complainant that no headway has been made into the case so far, say that they have managed to get crucial leads from the footages based upon which they expect to crack the case very soon. "A technical support team has been put on the job. They have managed to get several clues from the footages. The carjackers will be nabbed very soon," said Ranvijay Singh, DSP, Ghaziabad.ddd.
