Inter-state drug smugglers’ gang busted; four members held with 82-kg ganja
A joint team of Crime branch and Handia police on Tuesday arrested four drug peddlers and claimed to have busted an inter-state gang involved in smuggling drugs from one state to another. Around 82-kg ganja and a four-wheeler were recovered from them.
The four peddlers, were key members of the gang, were arrested near Upardaha canal bridge Road where they had arrived to dispose drug consignment.
They were identified as Raju Jaiswal, Mangla Prasad and Raju Bhujawa of Allahabad and Dinesh Singh of Bhadohi.
The police said that the accused brought drugs from Sambhalpur district of Odisha and supplied it in Allahabad, Mirzapur, Reewa and adjoining districts.
Police added that the drugs were hidden in specially-made containers in their vehicle, which is referred to as “special vehicle” by the cops. The gang used to spend Rs 60,000 to Rs 80,000 to bring one consignment from Odisha to UP.
A senior crime branch official said that several groups were involved in drug peddling and drug peddlers usually pocketed up to Rs 2 to 3 lakh after smuggling a quintal ganja from one state to another. This was the prime reason behind peddlers bringing consignments from Odisha.
Police, meanwhile, said that the four peddlers had left Odisha on August 18 and were carrying a consignment of 1,200 Kg ganja. However, their ‘scheme vehicle’ met with an accident and they had to hire another scheme vehicle to smuggle the consignment.
In the meantime, intelligence wing of the district police were tipped off about their movement and they were nabbed.
