Afternoon Headlines: Lightning strikes in Denver, Broncos hire a temp, plus 8 more stories

1. MEET THE NEW TEMP

Matt Prater was the best kicker in the NFL last season, and the Bronocs plan on having his job waiting for him after his four-game suspension, but there will still be field goals to be kicked in his absence. 2. TWO STRUCK BY LIGHTNING IN DENVER

In Denver, two men were reportedly struck by lightning on Federal Boulevard during a brief, strong storm Heavy rains hit the metro area Tuesday afternoon in widespread portions of Colorado bringing flooding and hail to the area.

3. HEARING OFFICER: REINSTATE COP WHO HAD SEX ON THE JOB

A former Denver police officer fired for having on-duty sexual liaisons with a fellow officer and for punching her lover when the relationship fell apart should be reinstated to her job, a Denver Civil Service Commission officer has ruled.

4. AUDIT: COLORADO NOT MONITORING PSYCHOTROPICS FOR YOUNG PRISONERS

5. JUDGE DENIES ACCUSED TERRORIST’S RAMADAN MOTION

A federal judge has denied a motion by accused terrorist Janshid Muhtorov to be transferred back to the Denver jail after claiming he was sent to another jail because of religious retaliation.

6. CRESTED BUTTE: UP FOR WHATEVER?

The mountain town that is known for wacky, out-of-the-box, costumed events is in a dither over secretive plans to have a beer company take over the town and literally paint it blue for an upcoming weekend as part of an online and television ad campaign.

7. DENVER ZOO WANTS TWO BUCKS MORE

Denver Zoo officials are asking a City Council committee for permission to charge $2 more across all age groups during the March through October high season.

8. AURORA FARM TRADES FOOD FOR GARDEN WORK
