Even as the list of BJP candidates is yet to be announced, speculation of family members making the cut is rife in Gurgaon. The BJP has once again come under the radar of its own volunteers and party workers, as rumours of Aarti Rao, Padmini Singh and Aridaman Billu making it to the list do the rounds.
Sources confirmed they are among aspirants seeking party tickets for the Haryana Assembly elections. Aarti Rao is the younger daughter of Union minister Rao Inderjit Singh, who had defected to the BJP in February prior to the Lok Sabha elections.
Sources said Padmini Singh is the niece of Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh. Aridaman Billu is the brother-in-law of Union minister and former army chief, General V K Singh.
If true, the jockeying for tickets by family members would appear contradictory to the ‘no family member policy’ of the BJP. Speculation is that Rao and Singh are in line to contest from Rewari and Gurgaon Assembly seats. Billu is eyeing the party ticket from Sohna.
Interestingly, posters and hoardings of Billu sharing space with Prime Minister Narendra Modi and other top party leaders have already surfaced on Sohna roads. Sohna, Rewari and Gurgaon, all three fall under the Gurgaon Lok Sabha constituency, represented by Rao Inderjit Singh.
“If they indeed make it to the final list, it is likely to spark anger among party volunteers,” a senior party leader said.
