Rajasthan ATS and Delhi police differ on arrested students in Jaipur
JAIPUR: The case of booking Jaipur-based engineering students, in a case dating back to 2011, by the Delhi police has created confusion. After their arrest in March, the Rajasthan ATS had claimed that the three students had come in contact with Riyaz Bhatkal, founder member of Indian Mujahideen (IM) and other top IM operators in the first quarter of 2012.
Delhi police, however, had booked the trio in connection with an illegal arms factory, busted in Delhi, in 2011. The ATS officers are tightlipped, but the discrepancy may emerge when the agency files its independent chargesheet in coming days.
In March, Mohammed Maroof alias Ibrahim, an engineering student of VIT College in the city's Jagatpura area, was arrested from his house in Jhotwara's Sanjay Nagar-D locality, while two other students, Waqar and Mehrajudeen, were nabbed from a rented accommodation at house number-118 at Pratap Nagar's Sector 35. The ATS lodged an FIR for waging war against the nation and under sections of the Explosives Act.
In its investigation so far, the ATS found that the three engineering students started communicating with Riyaz Bhatakal and other top IM suspects in the first quarter of 2012. The ATS found that the trio had come in contact with IM operatives through social media websites and after their brainwash, they were asked to learn putting together bombs and carry out blasts. Monu, alias Tehsin Akhtar, a Pakistan resident and their handler, allegedly visited Jaipur and some other cities in Rajasthan to conduct a recce and train the trio.
However, as per the chargesheet filed by Delhi police against Monu, Waqas and the three engineering students, had set up the arms manufacturing factory in Meer Vihar area of Nangloi in Outer Delhi for manufacturing arms and ammunition to carry out terrorist activities in Delhi and other parts of the country. The weapons manufacturing unit had elaborate equipments like moulding, cutting, assembly drilling and grinding machines, besides explosives and rocket launchers. When the factory was busted by Delhi police in November 2011, a huge quantity of arms and ammunition were seized.
The ATS investigation tells a different story. The agency had claimed that the three engineering students came into the picture when Maroof got in touch with IM operatives in the first quarter of 2012.
The Delhi police claim that temples of Bharatpur, including Ganga Mandir and Lakshman Mandir, were on the target of these three students. The chargesheet reveals how the three engineering students were putting together bombs using Magnesium Sulphate, acetone and other things which were recovered from their rented accommodation in the city.
