LUCKNOW: People had no respite from power cuts and sultry weather on Tuesday. The rostering done by Lucknow Electricity Supply Administration (Lesa) led to long electricity cuts, some stretching to more than five hours, across city. Faults in the transmission lines and cables during peak demand hours further added to people’s misery.
As per new schedule of the UP Power Corporation Limited, Lucknow faced six-hour long power cuts.
While in some parts, rostering was done at a stretch, in others it was staggered to prevent angry protests by residents. Several localities were without power entire night since Monday.
A major cable fault plunged a major part of Hussainganj in a severe power crisis. The fault came to the fore around 3am on Tuesday. It could not be corrected till late afternoon, leaving thousands of people high and dry.
A similar situation prevailed in Triveninagar on Sitapur Road where power cuts stretched for more than eight hours. Residents claimed this was one of the worst power scenario in the recent years. Residential colonies like Indiranagar and Gomtinagar, too, faced recurrent power cuts since Monday night.
Even VIP colonies like Dilkusha Colony was not spared as power outages spanned for over five hours leaving the residents sweltering in high humidity.
Lesa officials said power demand in the city has crossed over 1,000 MW. They said rostering has become necessary because of non-availability of enough power from the grid.
Besides faults and non-availability of power, residents in some localities like Kaiserbagh faced the problem of low voltage throughout the day.
