Gurgaon, Aug 26 : A patwari (village accountant) with the revenue department was Tuesday arrested while accepting a bribe from a woman, an official said.

This was the fourth arrest by the state vigilance department in a week and the 19th this year.

Patwari Sunder Kumar, who works with the Haryana Urban Development Authority (HUDA), was arrested from his office in Gurgaon's Sector 14 while accepting Rs.5,000 as bribe.

Vigilance department officials caught the patwari red-handed after a complaint was filed by Sunita Kumari, a resident of Hayatpur village.

Sunder Kumar had demanded money for releasing a cheque against Sunita Kumari's land acquired by the HUDA, a vigilance department official said.

The vigilance department has so far arrested 19 government employees this year.

Of the 19, eight are policemen and six are patwaris. In 2013, 28 people were arrested.

Head Constable Charan Singh, posted as munshi at Mindkola police station, was Monday arrested while accepting Rs.3,500 as bribe to register a complaint.

Patwari Anil Kumar was Aug 23 caught red-handed while accepting Rs.20,000 for updating some property documents.

Inspector Sandeep Kumar Mor, station house officer (SHO) of Sector 29 police station, was arrested Aug 19 while accepting Rs.25,000 as bribe from a parking contractor against vehicles taken by police from non-parking areas.
