NLC contract workers threaten to go on strike from Sept 10
CUDDALORE: The contract workers' union at the Neyveli Lignite Corporation has threatened to go on an indefinite strike from September 10 if the management fail to initiate process to regularize the services of all the contract workers according to the June 3, 2012 settlement deed and the Supreme Court’s order on May 3, 2013.
The management had decided to regularize the services of 200 contract workers in the first phase and invited them for certificate verification.
However, the NLC Jeeva Oppntha Thozhilalar Sangam termed the management's move as “delaying tactics” and demanded regularizing the services of all contract workers.
There are about 13,000-odd contract workers at the NLC.
The union leaders argued that the NLC has not recruited any worker on a regular basis for the past 20 years and over 13,000 regular workers have retired during the time. They urged the management to fill up the vacant posts with the contract workers after regularizing their services.
The union demanded the management enroll all contract workers into Industrial Cooperative Society (Indcoserve) to initiate regularization process. It also demanded that the suspension of two union leaders be revoked.
