The new academic session in colleges has started. And everyone is ready to make a statement. From khadi kurtas, check shirts to palazzos, the youngsters are creating their unique style, an interaction with them on their sensibilities on fashion, their spending and what keeps them stylish all the time revealed.

“The new trendy clothes that I am buying include long skirts, palazzo pants and kurtas and high waist shorts. I love wearing everything that is comfortable. Of course, I spend a lot because I want to look different every day. I spend about Rs.1000 a month on clothes, but there are times I end up spending much more than that,” said Sunami Bhandari, student of Ambedkar University.

“Palazzos are the trend this season. Since I am a fashion student I make it a point to understand what makes a trend so popular. With palazzo pants, there is so much comfort and they really save your day in this awful heat,” added Aanchal Nagar, a student of Pearl Academy.

Raghav Marwah, a Law student, added to good measure: “I try to understand what other people are wearing and then I decide for myself. I think regular polo t-shirts are always in. I spend anywhere between Rs.1,000 and Rs.3,000 a month on clothes.”

“I am a lover for crop tops. They are the trendiest things for me right now. I buy them from everywhere like Forever21, Vero-Moda and Zara. Fashion for me is what you feel like wearing in the moment. I spend somewhere between Rs.3,000 and Rs.5,000 on shopping every month. There is no pressure of looking good, but I feel great when I am looking great,” added Charu Mehrish.

Sarika Bawa on the other hand is a kurta freak. “They are simple and comfortable, especially when you have to travel a lot. I am a regular buyer and don’t believe in sales since shops are overcrowded and you have trouble finding your size,” said this Delhi University student.

The craze for kurtas has transcended campuses in Delhi. “I look for trends online and then see for myself. I don’t feel any pressure but I like trying new trends. It is more individualistic than blind trend following. Kurtas are my trend for this season,” reasoned Pavitra Bawa, a student of Jawaharlal Nehru University.
