IPOH: Several Pakatan Rakyat (PR) assemblymen created a minor commotion at the state assembly today when they insisted that the speaker, Datuk Seri S. K. Devamany, make a ruling that all written replies to unanswered questions be distributed to all wakil rakyat.
Nga Kor Ming (DAP-Kepayang) raised the matter after Devamany ended the question-and-answer session after eight replies were given, and wanted to proceed with two motions.
Nga, who was disappointed as only eight of the 128 questions were answered, asked the speaker to extend the session or make a ruling that the written answers for the remaining questions be distributed to all the assemblymen.
Devamany said he noted the suggestion and would make a ruling on it later.
But Nga and several other PR representatives were unhappy and wanted the speaker to make a ruling immediately, and also wanted to know when the answers would be given.
Devamany repeatedly ordered them to take their seats but the commotion continued, with Nga saying that even the answers for the April questions were not given, and asked the assemblymen who supported the suggestion to stand up.
At this stage, Devamany intervened and said he has the power to make the decision and then move on to the tabling of the two motions, putting an end to the commotion, which lasted about 10 minutes.
Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Dr Zambry Abd Kadir then moved a motion to offer condolences on the death of Sultan Azlan Shah and the ascension to the throne by Sultan Nazrin Muizuddin Shah.
Datuk Saarani Mohamed (BN-Kota Tampan) seconded the motion, which was then debated by Datuk Dr Mah Hang Soon (BN-Chenderiang), Datuk Siti Salmah Mat Jusak (BN-Lubok Merbau), Leong Cheok Keng (PR-Malim Nawar) and Radzi Zainon (PR-Sungai Rapat).
They paid tribute to the contributions of Sultan Azlan Shah, who died on May 28 this year, to the state and also expressed similar sentiments that Sultan Nazrin would continue the good works done by his father.
The second motion to condemn the act of the shooting down of MH17 and to express condolences over the missing MH370, was moved by Saarani and seconded by Datuk Mohd Khusairi Abdul Talib (BN-Slim). Among those who debated the motion was Datuk Seri Mohammed Nizar Jamaluddin (PR-Changkat Jering).
The house observed a minute's silence in respect of the death of Sultan Azlan Shah and victims of MH17 after each of the motions were passed.
