The Tamil Eelam Supporters Organisation (TESO) will hold demonstration in Chennai on September 3 urging the United Nations not to allow Sri Lankan President Mahinda Rajapaksa to address its General Assembly on September 25.

A resolution adopted in the meeting of the TESO chaired by DMK president M. Karunanidhi said Mr. Rajapaksa had refused to allow the UN team seeking to investigate Sri Lanka’s human rights record.

“Since he denied entry to the UN team, neither Mr Rajapaksa nor any representative from Sri Lanka be allowed to address the UN General Assembly,” the resolution said.

Recalling India’s vote against allowing UN team to conduct probe in Sri Lanka and its subsequent decision to deny visa to conduct investigation in India, the TESO meeting urged India to allow the UN team.

“Since Sri Lanka had denied permission the UN team appointed by UNHRC chief Navi Pillay, it is planning to launch its probe into other countries. Being an important nation in this part of the world, India should allow the UN team,” another resolution said.

Expressing satisfaction over Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s support for a political solution to the Sri Lankan Tamil issue, the TESO wanted India to take steps to speed up the process to achieve the goal.

During his meeting with the Tamil National Alliance (TNA) MPs, Mr Modi said a solution to the Sri Lankan Tamil issue should be found within the united Sri Lanka
