TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Director of Investigation and Advocacy at the Indonesian Forum for Budget Transparency (Fitra), Uchok Sky Khadafi, criticized the amount of budget allocated for the attires of the Legislative Council (DPRD) members in several provinces. "The budget for complete civilian attire is too expensive and a waste of money," said Uchok.
Based on regional budgetary data as collected by Fitra, the total budget spent for complete attire in 18 provinces for 1,212 members of DPRD reaches an astounding Rp14 billion. Therefore, a DPRD member spends Rp11.6 million in average for his or her suits. Uchok said that among 18 provinces are Maluku, West Sulawesi, Jambi, South Borneo, and Jakarta.
Moreover, Fitra noted that 12 provinces have a specific budget for golden badges, totaling to Rp6.4 billion for 736 members of DPRD. It means that a member of DPRD scores Rp8 million for a golden badge.
The excessive budgetary, Uchok said, is inappropriate as the DPRD members are not yet working. "[We] have not seen their work performance, but they have already had their hands on expensive, luxurious, and fantastic facilities," he said.
