Mayor meets VIP guests from Indonesia and Sri Lanka

SHANGHAI Mayor Yang Xiong met Hamengkubuwono X, monarch of Yogyakarta Sultanate of Indonesia; and Mohommad Muzammil, mayor of Colombo of Sri Lanka, on August 6.
Shanghai is an open port and hopes to develop cooperation with all the cities in the world, said Yang after signing an exchange agreement with the sultan of Yogyakarta.
The mayor said Shanghai has historical relationship with Indonesia and Yogyakarta has a strategic place in Indonesia’s economic development. The sultan’s visit will contribute to understanding and friendship between China and Indonesia.
In a separate meeting with guests from Sri Lanka, Yang said the two countries enjoy long-term friendship and strategic partnership. Shanghai is willing to play a bigger role to strengthen the bilateral ties.
He said Shanghai and Colombo became sister cities more than ten years ago. Shanghai will expand its ties with Colombo as both cities just signed a new memorandum of understanding for cooperation.
