A British man has reached the finish line for his epic motorcycle trip from Britain to Japan to raise money for orphans from the March 2011 earthquake and tsunami, arriving Monday at an elementary school hit by the disaster in Ishinomaki, Miyagi Prefecture.

Dominic Farwell-Cooke, 29, traveled through 14 countries, including Germany, Ukraine and Mongolia, by motorbike for about four months, raising more than his targeted £3,000 (¥510,000).

The final destination of his 16,000-km journey was Okawa Elementary School, where about three-fourths of the pupils and most teachers died or remain unaccounted for in the wake of the quake-tsunami disaster.

Farwell-Cooke prayed for the victims at the school, which he learned about in the news. Parents who lost children at the school briefed him on how far the tsunami came in the coastal city.

He sought donations for orphans by posting online video clips he took with cameras strapped to his motorcycle helmet. He said he will pass the funds along to the London-based charity Aid for Japan.

Farewell-Cooke said he hopes people will enjoy his trip by watching the video clips and that it will help more people know about the current situation in the disaster-stricken area.
