After 50 films, Darshan bags his Best Actor(state) award

It has taken 50 films for Darshan to win his Best Actor (State) award. The actor won the award for Krantiveera Sangolli Rayanna, which incidentally had won a Filmfare award for the same role. The award is named Subbaiah Naidu Award For Best Actor and carries a silver medal and Rs 20,000 in cash. Darshan dedicated the award to all the screen villains in Kannada industry.His father Toogudeepa Srinivas was one of the most well-known on-screen villains in Kannada films. Darshan also said that the credit for him winning the award should go to producer Anand Appugol who spent three years and a huge amount of money, making the historical. The historical film based on freedom fighter Sangolli Rayanna also won an award for the Best Entertainer and a special jury award for fight composer Ravi Verma. The State Film Awards (2012) were announced on Monday evening.
GLORY FOR MUSIC
The last few years have seen lyricists and music composers becoming the stars in the Kannada film industry. More than actors, directors or scriptwriters, it is lyricists and composers who are attracting audience to films. Arjun Janya, who has become a sensation along with Harikrishna in recent years, won the Best Music Director award for Alemaari. Mallikarjun won the Best Lyricist Award for the film Ee Bhoomi Aa Bhanu. Vasu Deekshith won the Best Male Playback singer award for the film Cyber Yugadol and the Best Female Singer award went to Anuradha Bhat for Little Master.
The selection committee was headed by veteran producer KCN Chandrashekar and a total of 27 awards were announced. The top awards; Dr Rajkumar Award for lifetime achievement, Puttanna Kanagal Award for lifetime achievement by a director and Dr Vishnuvardhan award for lifetime achievement in films went to M Bhaktavatsala, B Dattaraj and actor Rajesh respectively.All the three carry a gold medal and Rs 2 lakh cash award.
There was a surprise in store when the little-known film Tallanna was picked for the Best Film award. Though the film did not make much of an impact at the box office, it won the First Best Film award. The film is directed by S Sudarshan. The director and producer get a gold medal and Rs 1 lakh each. The lead actress in the film, Nirmala Chennappa, won the best actress award.
Bharat Stores, which won a National award, was given the Second Best Film award. The film directed by P Sheshadri and produced by Basant Kumar Patil became the seventh film in a row by the director to win a national award. Sumana Kittur-directed thriller Edegarike won the Third Best Film award.
The award for the Best Film on Social Concern went to Karanika Shishu directed by C Lakshman. The Banjara film Konjavaram won the Best Regional Language Film award.This award is given to films made in Tulu, Kodava, Konkani and Banjara languages. The Best Children's Film went to Little Master directed by K Shivaram Christa. Santosh (Santu) who made his directorial debut with Alemaari won the Director's First Time Best Film award. Producer and studio owner Kari Subbu, who has been making an impact in acting of late, won the Best Supporting Actor award for Kalavu. Aruna Balaraj won the best supporting actress award for Olavina Ole.
FAUX PAS
The awards were not without its faux pas. The jury awarded the Best Story Writer Award to litterateur Baraguru Ramachandrappa for the film Angulimala. The writer, however, refused the award, saying it is a historicalfolk story. The others who won the State Awards are KY Narayanaswamy for Best Screenplay (Kalavu), MS Ramesh for Best Dialogues (Bheema Teeradalli), Rakesh for Best Cinematographer (Edegaarike), PR Soundar Raj for Editing (Sagar), Bheemeshappa, Art Direction (Karanika Shishu), Anil Kumar for Best Child Artiste (Karanika Shishu) and Lepana for Best Child Actress (Sheshu).
