GHAZIABAD: A 37-year-old businessman was killed in an accident on NH-24 late on Sunday night when his Maruti SX4 allegedly rammed a truck from behind near Nayagaon, Pilakhuwa area. Police were unable to trace the truck. The victim's relatives alleged that Rs 1.5 lakh, a cellphone and gold ornaments worn by the victim were missing, raising concerns about security on the highway.
According to the family members, the victim, Pushpender Singh, was returning to Ghaziabad from Hapur after settling a land deal and was carrying Rs 1.5 lakh. "We received information about the accident from the police. An autposy was conducted on Monday afternoon after which the body was cremated," said the victim's younger brother, Satyendra Singh. The Singh family members said apart from the cash, mobile phone, a gold chain and three gold rings worn by him were missing.
Cops said that highway patrolling vans had already reached the spot before police arrived. Nevertheless, there were allegations of the dead body being robbed, raising concerns about the highway's security.
An FIR was lodged at Pilakhuwa police station on Monday. "By the time police jeeps reached the spot, a huge crowd had already gathered, surrounding the vehicle. Any member from the crowd could have stolen the belongings of the victim. There were no CCTVs near the accident site on which we could have based our investigations," said Rajkumar Singh, DSP, Hapur.
