Thailand striker Teerasil Dangda admits he must improve to secure a place in the starting line-up at Spanish La Liga side Almeria.

Teerasil became the first Thai player to appear in the Spanish top flight when he came off the bench after 75 minutes in Almeria's 1-1 home draw with Enpanyol on Saturday.

The 26-year-old is on a season-long loan from Thai Premier League club SCG Muang Thong United.

"I am pleased with my performance,'' he said. "This was just the beginning. I will continue working hard.

"There are many things I have to work harder than I used to.''

Almeria's second league match of the season is against Getafe on Friday.

Earlier, Teerasil said that he was very "happy to play in the best league in the world".

"The Spanish league has great players," he said. "I look up to Cristiano Ronaldo [of Real Madrid] and Lionel Messi [of Barcelona]. I'm really excited about playing against Barcelona and Real Madrid."

A few years ago, Teerasil and two other players became Thailand's first footballers on the books of an English Premier League club when they joined Manchester City.

However, they did not get a chance to play and soon returned to Thailand.

Earlier last year, Teerasil trained with reigning La Liga champions Atletico Madrid.

Since his departure last month, his parent club Muang Thong have suffered a slump in form and are now effectively out of contention in the TPL.
