Accusing Health Minister Harsh Vardhan of lying, Janata Dal (United) Chief Whip Ali Anwar Ansari said the Central Vigilance Commission (CVC) had “invariably accepted” the authority of Indian Forest Service (IFS) officer Sanjiv Chaturvedi as Chief Vigilance Officer (CVO) of the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS). Mr. Chaturvedi was recently removed from the post by the Health Ministry, on grounds that his appointment was not approved by the CVC, amidst a controversy that the transfer was done at the behest of a BJP MP.

In a letter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday, Mr. Ansari, a Rajya Sabha MP, pointed out that contrary to Mr. Vardhan’s claim that the CVC had rejected Mr. Chaturvedi, the CVC continuously displayed Mr. Chaturvedi’s name as CVO, AIIMS on its website and in correspondence.
