JOIN USArt Bengaluru 2014’ was launched with a grand opening night at The Collection, UB City.
Amidst a massive gathering, all of who had come to enjoy the evening’s entertainment and show their support towards this annual art soiree, the festival started with a bang!
The evening’s entertainment had been planned to complement the theme of European Art History.
The evening started with a ballet/contemporary dance performance that brought the Renaissance period alive for the audience.
This was followed by celebrated artist Krishnamachari Bose, unveiling an installation created by him.
This installation, based on the theme of Renaissance, was created exclusively for ‘Art Bengaluru 2014’. Titled ‘No-Thing/Nothing’, it seeks to build on the extremities and the subtleties that are prevalent in one’s life.
Another highlight of the evening was a live performance by eminent international artist, Liu Bolin, who had come down from Shanghai to participate in this festival. What made this moment even more special was the fact that this marked Liu Bolin’s first ever live performance in India.
Uzma Irfan, conceptualiser and organiser, ‘Art Bengaluru’, says, “Over the years we have attempted to bring together galleries and artists from across India and abroad under one roof and I am very happy to say that this year, we have truly succeeded in having a distinctive mix of
galleries.
Another unique factor of this festival is that we don’t relegate the art to a gallery but instead showcase it throughout The Collection, UB City, thus promoting art awareness among all visiting this landmark destination. ‘Art Bengaluru’ has grown in the last five years to become one of the mostreputed art festivals in the country and we hope that people will enjoy the festival in its
entirety over the next nine days.”
