Gambler dies in police chase, FIR against 3 policemen

Following the death of a person in police chase in Ballia district, an irate mob of locals indulged in violence and brickbatting at the district hospital on Monday. They also damaged the motorcycle of a policeman. The police had to use force to bring the situation under control.

Varanasi: Following the death of a person in police chase in Ballia district, an irate mob of locals indulged in violence and brickbatting at the district hospital on Monday. They also damaged the motorcycle of a policeman. The police had to use force to bring the situation under control.
Later, the local residents blocked the road at Jagdishpur crossing demanding action against the policemen.
The road jam could not be cleared till filing of the report. Adequate police force and PAC personnel were deployed in view of the prevailing tension.
An FIR against three policemen including a sub-inspector was lodged under section 302 of IPC in connection with the death of Mainuddin in Ballia. The jam was cleared after the action taken against policemen. The FIR was lodged against SO Subhash Yadav, and two constables Rajesh Singh and Ajay Singh, all posted at Chandrashekhar Nagar police outpost. The FIR was lodged on the basis of complaint of Saifudding, the brother of Mainuddin. The jam was cleared after the intervention of ASP Ballia KC Goswami.
According to reports, the police raided a place in Chandrashekhar Nagar locality where some people were gambling. Seeing the police party they started fleeing from the scene. In police chase one Moinuddin (35), a resident of Kotwali area, fell into a roadside nullah. Local residents alleged that two policemen had brutally beaten up Moinuddin, and he died on the spot. He was taken to the district hospital where he was declared brought dead.
The news spread like a wild fire in the locality. Local residents assembled at the district hospital demanding filing a case against the guilty policemen and compensation to the kin of the deceased. They also indulged in brick batting and damaged the motorcycle of a policeman. Panic prevailed in the locality and the medicine shops near the hospital pulled down their shutters. Police force from different police stations reached there to control the situation. They used force to disperse the gathering.
Later, the local residents went to block Jagdishpur crossing. They were not ready to clear the jam until action was taken against the guilty policemen. The CO Kotwali VP Singh told TOI over phone that the talks were on with the agitating people to end the stir.
