MUMBAI: The state government on Monday informed the Bombay high court that it was extending the time available for the first phase of online admissions under the Right to Education Act to Thursday from Monday for those who had already applied but were yet to get admission in private aided schools and civic schools in the city.
A bench headed by Justice Anoop Mohata on Monday was hearing a PIL filed by Anudanit Shiksha Bachao Samiti for proper implementation of the RTE Act in the state as its lawyer Vaibhav Sugdare said over 250 students had been denied seats despite being allotted one.

State lawyers Geeta Shastri and Iman Calcuttawala said the state had taken steps with the deputy director of education at the helm to ensure that no student was left out.
Civic counsel Anil Sakhare said the BMC was also committed to filling the 25% RTE quota.
In a separate petition filed by a teachers’ association, a demand was made that the BMC must start Class VIII classes in all its schools in the city, said advocate Rajiv Patil.
Sakhare said that over 100 new Class VIII divisions had been opened and the seats were more than the students who pass from Class VII, and the BMC had received no complaints of any student being left out.
