3 attempts for IIT entry may not be productive: Study
MUMBAI: Even as the Centre contemplates allowing three attempts to crack the JEE (advanced), a study done by an IIT-Kanpur professor shows that it may not be very productive. It shows that performances of students who took a drop of more than two years are generally weaker than the students who join IITs immediately after their class XII.
Professor Dheeraj Sanghi restricted the sample size to his institute only.
He took into account the performance of students from the 2006 batch when multiple attempts were allowed. It shows 184 students in 2006 batch who appeared for their XII in the same year had an average cumulative performance index (CPI) of 7.9. In the same batch, 217 students who took their class XII in 2005, with a year’s drop, had an average CPI of 7.2. The 81 students who cleared their class XII in 2004 had an average CPI of 6.8.
