What makes Shahrukh Khan's HAPPY NEW YEAR and Aamir Khan's DHOOM 3 similar?

With so much hype created with Shahrukh Khan's upcoming release and the posters too looking exciting, we did expect him to come up with something unique that would surprise and enthrall all of us. Just when our expectations were soaring high, the trailer, which released recently, let us down and dropped our hopes. (Nahiii, ye nahi ho sakta.. Bollywood masala film hai, thoda drama toh banta hai boss) Leaving the melodrama aside, look what we just discovered! Shahrukh's HAPPY NEW YEAR draws many similarities to Aamir Khan's blockbuster DHOOM 3. Here we go listing five such similarities between HAPPY NEW YEAR and DHOOM 3 that we came across.
Heist film
Both HAPPY NEW YEAR and DHOOM 3 have been made on similar lines and promoted as heist films. Both the Khans (Shahrukh and Aamir) have played robbers. We might not get to see the high octane stunts of DHOOM 3 in HNY, but we will surely be entertained with a lot of drama and dance with HAPPY NEW YEAR being a full on Bollywood masala film.
Similar role of the leading ladies
While Deepika Padukone apparently plays the role of a Maharashtrian bar dancer in HAPPY NEW YEAR, Katrina Kaif was shown as an acrobat dancer in DHOOM 3. Both these gorgeous ladies have wonderfully done aerial acts in their respective films. But unlike Katrina's role, we want to see more of Deepika, who is one of the best actresses today (with back-to-back hits and winning numerous awards for best actress). Hope Deepika's dancing ability doesn't overshadow her acting skills!
Global appeal
Foreign locales add up to the films beauty and upgrade the level. But Bollywood films being shot at videshi land is nothing new too. From decades we have been observing that. Both Aamir and Shahrukh's films has global appeal as they were shot internationally. While DHOOM 3 was shot in Chicago, HAPPY NEW YEAR has been shot in Dubai.
Perform at a show
Though both the films entertain with their dancing skills, the purpose behind the dance performance is different in both the films. In HAPPY NEW YEAR, King Khan along with Deepika, Abhishek Bachchan, Boman Irani, Sonu Sood and Vivaan Shan perform at a dance show to perfectly plan the robbery whereas in DHOOM 3, Aamir Khan and Katrina Kaif professionally perform at a circus which was started by Aamir's father (Jackie Shroff) in the film. While they conduct heist side-by-side!

Junior Bachchan who played a cop in DHOOM 3 will be seen in a completely contrast avatar. He will be a part of SRK's gang of thieves in HNY. We just hope his totally dissimilar avatar does not let our expectations down. Meanwhile, though Jackie Shroff had a very brief role in DHOOM 3, (he was Aamir Khan's father), in HAPPY NEW YEAR, 'bhidu' Jackie is portraying the role of an antagonist. Let's hope we get to see more of Jackie dada in this Farah Khan flick.
