Three held for smuggling sand

Truck seized during a vehicle check

The K.G. Chavadi Police of the Coimbatore District Police have arrested three persons on the charges of smuggling sand from Karur to Kerala, through Coimbatore on Saturday.

The police said that the truck was seized during a vehicle check at the Appachgoundanpatty Junction.

“The truck carried five units of sand and was escorted by two persons on a motorbike.

The driver of the truck A. Rajendran (25) of Madukkarai and cleaner S. Anbalagan and their accomplice S. Subramani (38) of the same locality were arrested.

Search is on for their two accomplices Rangaraj and Nagamanickam, who managed to escape on the bike. The truck was seized,” the police said.

The police said that the accused were booked under section 21(1) of Tamil Nadu Mines and Minerals Development Regulation Act, 1957, and 38(A) of Tamil Nadu Mines and Minerals Concession Rules Act, 1959, r/w section 379 (punishment for theft) of the Indian Penal Code.
