GUWAHATI: Top officials of the state and Kamrup (Metro) district including
principal secretary to
chief minister MGKV Bhanu,
deputy commissioner M Angamuthu and others stressed on enhancing the pumps at Bharalu and other water channels in the city to reduce the water level in the city on Sunday. Continuous rain might worsen the scenario in the next couple of days.
“After inspecting the site at Bharalu, I have asked the water resources department to take measures to enhance the power of the pump,” Bhanu said on Sunday.
The
state water resources department has shut down sluice gates so that the extra water from the swelling Brahmaputra do not flood the Bharalu and other water bodies flowing through the city. According to a government report, the water level of Brahmaputra is showing rising trend and might reach danger level at any moment.
