Param Gill’s movies compete with each other
The 22nd edition of San Francisco Global Movie Festival, which ran from 15-17 August, announced the jury awards for the competition section.
Director Param Gill was in a unique situation with his Hollywood and Bollywood films competing against each other at the event. DOA: Death Of Amar won the Audience Choice Award and Best Score , while Last Supper won in five categories, including that of best director.
The award comes with a cash prize of $100,000. When Param was asked what he will do with this money, he replied with a straight face, "I live and breathe films, I will make another movie".
DOA: Death of Amar is a fast-paced suspense thriller about a struggling actor marked for death. This is his first Bollywood film produced by Remo D'Souza Entertainment. Critics and audience were bowled over by the solid performance of Rajeev Khandelwal in the film, which will open in India later this year.
Param said, "Rajeev is a very intense actor and this film fully exploits his talent. That's why the audience loved it. Also, Bollywood makes very few suspense thrillers". India Post applauded the film, saying, "3 thumbs up, the film with best score in years, unbearable suspense, adrenaline rush and Rajeev Khandelwal in a knock-out role".
Param started his career in America with Rockin Meera in 2009, which played at several film festivals and was acclaimed for its huge canvas. He followed it up with a thriller, Hotel Hollywood, which recovered its budget on the first day of release. Last Supper is his third film in Hollywood, which is set for a Thanksgiving 2014 release in North America. He is next developing a new Bollywood project, which will roll in October.
