Delhi schools shine at an inter-school debate here
DPS RK Puram organised the 13th Annual Dhruv Rajgarhia Memorial Debate recently.
The debate is held every year in memory of Dhruv Rajgarhia, a student of the school who passed away in 2002. Fourteen schools from all over Delhi participated in the competition this year. The judges included Vinita Sethi, assistant secretary general, FICCI and Anjana Agarwal, a professional in the field of communication.
The principal, Dr DR Saini, vice principal Shobha Mehta, headmistress Vanita Sehgal, Anuradha Dang, in-charge of activities, Dhruv’s father, Ashok Rajgarhia, and Anandita Nair, an upcoming actress and an alumna of the school, were present on the occasion. The participants had an hour to prepare their arguments on the topics which were given to them on the spot through a draw of lots. Each team consisted of three members – one for the motion, one against and one interjector. Topics like ‘dialogue is always the best way out’, ‘fantasy fiction does more harm than good’ and ‘it is possible for a person to live a moral life without religion’ were debated by the students. The judges commended the participants. The first position was bagged by DPS RK Puram, but since they were the host school, the rolling trophy was passed on to DPS Vasant Kunj, Springdales. DPS Dhaula Kuan got the second position and DPS Mathura Road the third. For the Best Speaker, the third position was bagged by Sanskriti School, the second by Springdales, Dhaula Kuan and the first by DPS RK Puram. DPS Vasant Kunj bagged the prize for the Best Interjector.
