Rain returns to Saurashtra

After a break, the rains once again returned to Saurashtra providing the much-needed relief from the hot and humid weather that prevailed over the last few days.

RAJKOT: After a break, the rains once again returned to Saurashtra providing the much-needed relief from the hot and humid weather that prevailed over the last few days. Moderate rainfall was reported from parts of Bhavnagar, Botad, Amreli, Rajkot and Junagadh districts on Saturday afternoon.
One youth identified as Yuvarajsinh Gohil, 20, of Pasvi village in Talaja taluka of Bhavnagar district sustained serious burn injuries after being struck by lightning.
He was shifted to the civil hospital in Bhavnagar. The lightning struck him while he was taking his cattle for grazing.
Meanwhile, a 30-year-old woman died after being struck by lightning in Ingorala village of Khambha in Amreli. But she is yet to be identified.
Lathi in Amreli district received the maximum rainfall of 35mm. it was followed by Dhari with 25mm, Babra 20mm, Savarkundla 20mm and Amreli town with 10mm rainfall.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) officials have issued a rainfall alert for the next 24 hours ending Sunday evening. "Light to moderate rain or thundershowers would occur at few places in Saurashtra and Diu,'' said a weather department official.
Officials said that Saurashtra region has so far received 65.50% of its average annual rainfall while the state as a whole has received 57.70% of its average annual rainfall. Farmers say that the fresh spell of rainfall would be beneficial for their crops. The sowing is over in the region and has been carried out in more than 100% of the cultivable area.
