SAMBALPUR: Officials of both Odisha and Chhattisgarh have agreed to share information for managing water of the Mahanadi at the time of emergency.
Chhattisgarh has agreed to hold floodwater for sometime at the request of Odisha at the time of emergency to avoid deluge in the state. This was decided by water resources departments of both states at a meeting held at Burla on Friday.
"Since major catchment area of Hirakud Dam falls in Chhattisgarh, we are dependent on them. We have asked them to give information on quantity of the water upstream," superintending engineer of Hirakud Dam Project R K Panda told a news conference.
According to Panda, Mahanadi receives water from two dam projects in Chhattisgarh — Bango Dam in Bilaspur and Rabi Sankar Sagar near Raipur. "It was also agreed to share information on curve rule every day," Panda said.
