A fact-finding committee constituted by the Union Ministry of Human Resource Development (MHRD) on Saturday inquired into the allegations, levelled by Chandra Krishnamurthy, Vice-Chancellor of Pondicherry Central University, and by the Registrar, Rajiv Yaduvanshi, against each other.

The convener of committee, former Vice-Chancellor of the Tamil Nadu Dr. MGR Medical University, Mayilvahanan Natarajan and committee member V. Balachandran, former Director General of Police of Tamil Nadu, held the inquiry at the campus of the Pondicherry Central University. Besides getting versions from Vice-Chancellor Dr. Chandra and Registrar Mr. Yaduvanshi, the committee also received complaints from teaching and non-teaching staff of the university.

Later talking to press persons, Dr. Balachandran said that the MHRD sent them as a fact-finding committee to examine certain allegations levelled by Vice-Chancellor and Registrar of the university. He said the committee has been asked to unearth the truth in their allegations. “We have commenced a preliminary inquiry today. We will complete the process as expeditiously as possible. We have been directed to send a report within a month to the Government,” said Dr. Balachandran.

Faculty members, non-teaching staff and students also submitted complaints to the fact-finding committee.

The committee’s terms of reference include examining the alleged violations of statute regarding nomination of Dr. Hariharan on the planning board, V. Indumathi as Director of Studies, Educational Innovations and Rural Reconstruction and the conduct of executive council meetings by the VC without visitor’s nominees.

The committee will also go into a complaint of discrimination by a librarian and the illegal detention of a student. The MHRD team will also go into allegations of the VC against Mr. Yaduvanshi. The VC had alleged that Mr. Yaduvanshi was frequently on leave and non co-operative. She also said on major policy decisions Mr. Yaduvanshi withheld files or delayed clearance.
