VADODARA: A suspected case of swine flu was admitted to the Sir Sayajirao General Hospital (SSGH) on Saturday evening. Sufiyabanu Pathan (15) was suffering from severe lung infection and critical breathlessness.
Pathan, a resident of Pavijetpur taluka in Chhota Udepur district, has been kept in the isolation ward that was maintained for such cases. "The patient was transferred to us in the evening from the community health centre in the area.
She was suffering from fever and flu along with diarrhoea. The cause of her breathlessness was found to be severe lung infection, which is the distinctive symptom of swine flu. She has been placed on a ventilator," said SSGH medical superintendent Dr Rajiv Daveshwar.
The hospital had received the last suspected swine flu case in May. The last patient to be tested positive for the viral infection was in April. According to experts, the H1N1 strand of the virus has now mutated to H2N1 even as the symptoms and treatment remain the same.
