COIMBATORE: The Communist Party of India and Communist Party of India (Marxist) will organise a door to door campaign in the city between August 24 and 31 to identify public grievances. Following the campaign the parties will stage a hunger strike on September 1 protesting against the state and the central government.
Citing a list of issues, the party leaders in a press conference said, "Eighty days after assuming office, the central government has failed to deliver its promises." The two left parties spoke about the various problems being faced by fishermen in the coastal districts of Tamil Nadu and said that the Centre failed to address those problems .
New BJP state president Tamilisai Soundararajan, upon assuming office, said that one of her party's main tasks in hand was to help the fisherfen of TN.
P R Natarajan, former CPM MP, said, "There have been 12 communal clashes since BJP formed government at the centre. The party is inclined to convert this nation into a Hindu nation." States like Uttar Pradesh have had the many communal clashes, he said. M Arumugam, CPI MLA, said, "Instances of crime against women and children have increased under this government. The safety of women in the country is questionable."
Targeting the AIADMK state government Arumugam said, "It has been three years and nothing has been done for the city. There are several civic projects pending."
Corruption, construction of roads, water supply, power supply and sanitation were among the several problems cited by the leaders that were unaddressed by the city administration.
"We will talk to all the residences of the city, listen to their grievances and make a list of them," said Natarajan. "After studying the survey, we will go on a hunger strike on September 1, seeking immediate redressal of the issues" he said.
