Chonburi claim share of top spot after cruising to victory against Muang Thong

Chonburi defeated SCG Muang Thong United 2-0 in the Thailand Premier League last night to move to joint top spot with Buriram United.

Thiago Cunha opened the scoring for the Sharks after 65 minutes and Anderson dos Santos made it 2-0 in the dying moments.

Chonburi and Buriram have 65 points but the Thunder Castle will regain a three-point lead with a home win against Army today. The defeat effectively ended Muang Thong's hopes of regaining the TPL title. The Kirins have 58 points, seven behind the leading duo.

At Chonburi Stadium, Chonburi were the better side for long periods and could have won by a bigger margin had Muang Thong goalkeeper Kawin Thamasatchanan not been in good form.

At PTT Stadium, PTT Rayong secured three important points in their fight for survival with a 2-0 win against Chainat. Amorn Thammanam gave the hosts the lead after 53 minutes and Adisak Srikampang finished off the visitors.

At United Stadium, Chiang Rai United beat Bangkok United 3-0, Kittirat Pajatasri (20), Renan Marques (45) and Leandro Assumpcao (75) on target for the hosts.

At Ratchaburi Stadium, Puwadon Suwannachart scored the winning goal for Ratchaburi against Samut Songkhram.

With five teams going down to League One at the end of the season, Samut Songkhram have effectively booked a relegation ticket.
