AJMER/ALWAR/BIKANER/KOTA: ABVP has an upper edge over its arch rival NSUI in the students' union polls held and results announced on Saturday. Barring MDS University in Ajmer, ABVP won in Kota University in Kota, Bikaner University in Bikaner city and JNV University in Jodhpur. Result for the Rajasthan University is stayed after a court order and the polls for MLS University will be held on August 28.

ABVP losing to NSUI at MDS University, considered as one of its strong bastion, come as a shocker for the BJP-backed students' group. Here less known Narendra Kumar Sharma of NSUI defeated his ABVP rival who was a student in the MDS since the last five years.
In the state's biggest college in terms of area 'GCA' Richpal Singh Choudhary defeated ABVP candidate after a gap of 4 years. In DAV College, Kuldeep Singh Shekhawat of NSUI secured victory. Winning NSUI leaders said the strategy of Congress state head Sachin Pilot helped them attain victory in traditional ABVP strongholds.
Meanwhile, ABVP's Bhom Singh Rathore clinched the JNVU president's post. This apex post of the university's student union has gone to ABVP fold first time after 2001. ABVP snatched the post from SFI's SFI's Mahendra Saran. The post has been with SFI for the past two years.
The polling percentage at the university, however, remained the lowest ever this year at a meagre 38.22%. Chief election officer of JNVU D G M Purohit attributed the low percentage to the small time gap between commencement of the session and the elections. He said out of a total 19,349 students, only 7,395 exercised their franchise .
Some student leaders, however, claimed that the low percentage was due to the failure of the university administration in issuing identity cards to the students. Rebutting the allegation, Purohit said, "We had made last ditch efforts to make identity cards available to all students even during the polling".
In other results for prominent institutes like Bikaner and Kota universities, ABVP has taken the pole position. However, NSUI's Suresh Swalkha has won the president's post in Kota University.
