New Delhi, Aug 23 : Simmering border tensions between India and Pakistan Saturday prompted the organisers of the World Kabaddi League (WKL) to rethink their decision to host the final in Lahore.
But Lahore Lions, the team fielded by Pakistan's Punjab province, has been granted visas and crossed the border into India Saturday.
WKL chief executive Raman Raheja said that the initial decision to shift the final, Dec 14, from Mohali to Lahore was done at the request of the Pakistan government.
"The final was shifted out of Mohali because they requested us but we will do what our government says," Raheja said.
WKL commissioner Pargat Singh, also a former India hockey captain, said that they are waiting for the government's decision.
"We are adopting a wait and watch policy. The decision to host the final in Lahore was taken under different circumstances. But now we will go by what our government tell us," he said.
Two people were killed and seven injured Saturday in heavy firing by Pakistan Rangers on BSF posts near the international border in R.S. Pura sector in Jammu district.
