Director Sriprawin says that in Usilampatti, where his upcoming film Porkuthirai is set, there are people who take pride in their bravado. Having worked under Ram Gopal Varma and with his affinity for Balu Mahendra’s films, Sriprawin wants his characters to be as authentic as possible. Hence he says he has conceived of his protagonist as having the qualities of a warhorse, but steeped in human emotions. “I have combined fact and fiction to make Porkuthirai a period film of sorts. The script lays a lot of importance on the geographical perspective of the place as well as on basic emotions such as love, relationship, passion, etc.,” says Sriprawin. The director has cast newcomer Chaitanya Krishnan as the hero, opposite Chandhini and Kavita Srinivasan.

From God’s own country

Yet another Mollywood actor is on her way to K-Town. After making a name for herself as a child artiste in three Malayalam films, including the hit Chattakkari , Daksha Ravindranath is being approached by several film producers in Tamil. “This follows my first adult role in a Malayalam film, Night Rider , directed by Senthil Vadakkancheri. I play one of the two heroines in this suspense thriller about a music band, along with six guys. As for Tamil films, I am reading a few scripts and am on the verge of signing one. Unfortunately, I am not at liberty to divulge anything about it now,” says Daksha.

A simple love story

Director Sanjeevan firmly believes that there is no true love without pain. “In fact, when I came up with the title, I wanted to make sure that, when people watch it, they should feel a bit of that pain in their hearts. Valiyudan Oru Kaadhal is a simple love story about a happy-go-lucky but not-so-well-to-do youth from a village who falls in love with a rich girl from the neighboring village. Will he win her hand or is tragedy in store for him? The uniqueness of my screenplay will be the climax which has an unexpected twist,” says Sanjeevan who has cast a new face Rajesh opposite Gowri Nambiar. “She has done a film each in Malayalam and Tamil ( Sembattai ) and is the daughter of yesteryear actor Radha’s husband Rajashekaran’s brother,’ informs Sanjeevan.
