Cricket: Flamingos fly over city Falcons

Flamingos romped to a nine-wicket win after Nairobi Falcons batting collapsed to set a 57-run target in the one-off National Junior Girls Championships at Sir Ali Muslim Club yesterday.

At Ruaraka SC, Rift Valley Hawks recovered from their Thursday’s humiliating defeat to Flamingos to beat Nairobi Eves by three runs.

It took Flamingos just seven overs, during which it lost Mary Wambui (five) – caught by Rose Ondeche off Freda Akinyi – to score the required runs, which came up with Daisy Wairimu top-scoring with 25 from 21 balls.

Wairimu, who is currently top scorer, had hit three fours en route to victory.

Monica Nthambi was excellent with bat in the chase with unbeaten 16 (10 balls.
Earlier, Penina Atieno had bowled a career-best of 5/5 from three overs to beat the Nairobi side for 56 in 15.3 overs.

Atieno got the wickets of Lovine Achieng’ (3), Akinyi (6), Faith Nthio (0), Mercy Akoth (0) and Immaculate Nyanchama (1).

Wairimu was also impressive with the ball picking up two wickets for 14 runs in her four overs.

Other contributors with the ball were Jackline Adhiambo, Monica Ndhambi and Norah Awinja who picked a wicket each.

Meanwhile, at Peponi School, Obuya Academy beat Oshwal B by 28 runs in an under-13 tournament sponsored by Crown Paints.

Obuya batted first and scored 169 in the alloted 15 overs. Oshwal B scored 141 in 15 overs. Man of the match was Aly Khan of Obuya Cricket Academy.

In the second semi-final at the same venue, Oshwal A, who batted first, beat Peponi School by 8 runs after scoring 113. Man of the match was Saahil Shah of Peponi School.
