Chief Minister pays surprise visit to government school

Gandhinagar, 23 August 2014

Chief Minister Anandiben Patel today took surprise round of a government run Sardar Patel Vidhyamandir school in sector 7 in Gandhinagar.

Speaking to media persons about her surprise visit, the Chief Minister said she was passing through the road near the school and had some time today so decided to have a round of school.

She said she found absence of 25% students. She said the absence was due to poor children of migrant labourers who had not returned from their native place after recent festivals.

Anandiben visited classrooms, computer room, principal office and other place in school. She interacted with students, asked them some questions and also called teachers and principles.

Speaking to media persons after her visit, Anandiben said, “the school has primary, secondary and higher secondary wings. I had some time and was passing through this area and thought let me visit the school. I have given my suggestions in writing.”

She said, “many students were absent. On a average daily 25% students are absent. Some children are absent because they have not returned from their native places after Raksha Bandhan. Secondly cleaning was needed. Computers were not clean. Untill primary’s quality is not improved, quality of secondary would not improve and std 10th and 12th result will not improve. Last result of 12th std was about 28%. Government would think about how to ensure better result. In primary there’s shortage of two teachers. I have asked that I should get entire list of schools and teachers. Surplus teachers in other school will be diverted to those school that have shortage of students.”
