Albania will join the coalition in support of the Iraqi government with light weapons and ammunition in the fight against the Islamic State (IS) forces, the Albanian Telegraphic Agency (ATA) reported Saturday.

In a press release, the Albanian government announced Friday that as a NATO member country, Albania has contributed from the very beginning to the fight against terror as part of the international coalitions in Afghanistan, Iraq and other regions, the ATA reported.

"In front of the barbaric methods of IS and the catastrophic humanitarian situation in Iraq, we feel moral bound to do everything in our capacity against the darkness that the blind forces of terrorism are trying to plunge the mankind into," said the press release.

The Albanian government said that any decision and contribution of Albania in this regard is based on the best international approaches as well as in coordination with its strategic partners and its NATO and EU allies. Endi
