NASHIK: Keeping in mind the encouraging response to the idol donation campaign, mayor Yatin Wagh on Friday said about 150 big and small artificial ponds would be constructed at all prominent places of the city.
“We welcome mandals and resident groups to come up with suggestions of more such ponds,” he said. The civic body had received 1.47 lakh idols for donation.

The mayor was addressing a meeting of Ganpati mandals and police and Nashik Municipal Corporation (NMC) officials.
On the complaints of the mandals that they have to run from pillar to post seeking various approvals and their demand of single window facility for the same, Wagh said it would be ensured that the process was made simple.
“Vehicles across the six divisions of the civic body would be deployed during the 10-day festival to collect Nirmalya,”he said.
The mayor pledged deployment of additional life guards at immersion sites to avoid any untoward incident. He directed the officials to repair all potholes along the route of procession and other places where the situation was grave.
The mayor also announced special prizes for mandals carrying message of saving the girl child, protection of environment, religious and themes promoting water conservation, harvesting and presentations promoting water literacy.
Welcoming one of the suggestions to put up hoardings by every mandal, Sandeep Diwan, the deputy commissioner of police, said the police would support the move to put up hoardings and involve them in the campaign initiated by them.
“The police would support mandals who wish to put up hoardings on awareness of property offences, anti-terrorists and other social issues. About 80% of the residents are likely to visit the mandals,” he added.
