The first game of the 2014 Inkk Mobile Battle of the Giants started on a high note at Govind Park yesterday.

The Delta Tigers edged Labasa 1 – 0 and put itself in good position as competition continues today.

Heat was a factor as both sides seemed unsettled in the later stages of the match.

What happened: Rewa, five- time winners of the Inkk Mobile Battle of the Giants since their first win in 1994 in Nadi started well. The Labasa defenders worked hard to keep Rewa strikers from scoring.

In the 41st minute, Rewa scored through Misaele Draunibaka.

Halftime: Rewa 1 – 0 Labasa.

The western heat took its toll on the teams in the second half.

A powerful shot by Vilikesa Sawani from Labasa in the last five minutes was the best opportunity the Northerners could have capitalised on.

Big Play: Rewa goalkeeper Simione Tamanisau played a good game making some crucial saves.

Star Play: Apisalome Turuva played a good defensive game.

Comments: Rewa Football president Nazeel Buksh said, “It was sweet revenge for us from the Fiji FACT. The boys played according to plan and we expect a tough battle against Ba in our next game.”

Labasa coach Bal Sarju Reddy said: “The players did not play to expectations, both teams were strong but we did not fully utilise our chances.”
