Alstom SA, the French power-equipment supplier, and the Brazilian engineering and construction company Andrade Gutierrez SA formed a joint venture to open a factory that will make steel towers for wind turbines.

Alstom will supply 49 percent of the 30 million euros ($39.7 million) needed for the plant in Brazil’s northeastern state of Bahia, according to a statement today from the French company. The plant is expected to begin production this year and will be able to make 200 towers a year.
