ALWAR: A woman, who has been an alleged victim in a 12-year-old rape case, was arrested for extorting a trader in Alwar. The woman was reportedly caught red-handed while taking money from a trader for not lodging a rape case against him. Twelve years ago, the woman had accused then Alwar MP and current MLA Jaswant Singh Yadav and then SP BR Gwala of sexual exploitation.

Police said the woman had visited the trader a couple of times and spoke to him over the phone on pretext of buying a property. However, she came to his shop recently along with a lawyer and threatened to lodge an FIR of rape.
"The woman had visited the trader's office a few months ago after speaking with him over the phone. She wanted to buy a home. On August 14, she visited the trader's house. The trader took her to the house. On August 16, the woman came to his office and started accusing him of raping her. She also brought a lawyer along with her. She threatened that she would lodge an FIR if he didn't pay her Rs 20 lakh," said a police officer.
The trader agreed to pay Rs 7 lakh and gave her the first installment of Rs 50,000. "He made a complaint to district SP following which a trap was laid," said the officer. The officer added that the trader's domestic help called up the woman to take the remaining amount on Thursday.
"She was caught red-handed while accepting the extortion money. We arrested her and produced her in a court that sent her to a two-day police remand. Interrogation with her is going on," said the officer.
