The World Photography Day founded in 2009 was launched globally as a project in 2010. This eventually became a day to celebrate photography across the world on 19 August.
On 9 January 1839, the French Academy of Sciences announced the daguerreotype process, which is a photographic process developed by Joseph Nicèphore Nièpce and Louis Daguerre. The concept of this day originated after the French government presented daguerreotype process "Free to the World" as a gift on 19 August 1839.
World Photography Day 2014, also marks the 175th anniversary of this first permanent photographic process patented and freely released to the world.
Now, photography has branched itself into different styles and textures since its invention, thanks to the technology that made them easily available.
On this special day, we bring you some of the photographs clicked in 2014, from all over the world defining moments in the history of photography. The featured photos are reflections of the world we live in. Some are aesthetically qualified, while some have captured brutal moments of life and joyous events.
