A day after the Centre sacked the Chief Vigiiance Officer, Sanjiv Chaturvedi, posted at the All India Institute of Medical Sciences in Delhi, Aam Aadmi Party chief Arvind Kejriwal demanded his reinstatement and said the Health Minister Dr Harsh Vardhan should resign for the row.

Kejriwal has also demanded a CBI inquiry into the matter. "We demand that Sanjiv Chaturvedi should be reinstated and the matter be probed by the CBI. Dr Harsh Vardhan must resign or he should be dismissed," he said.

Defending the decision, Vardhan had said on Thursday, "Nobody can work on that post without the approval of Central Vigilance Commission (CVC). This thing was brought to us and we saw that as a person is not eligible for the post and has not been approved by the CVC, so he cannot work on that post, it's a routine thing, don't make this such a big issue."

Chaturvedi, an IFS officer of Haryana cadre, was removed despite his appointment order having a fixed tenure of four years, ending in June 2016. Chaturvedi also has a reputation as a whistleblower and was reportedly transferred many times for exposing scams.
