The Revenue Department has sought administration sanction from the State government for developing seven roads in the district in connection with the upcoming National Games in the State.
A meeting chaired by the District Collector C.A. Latha at the V.K. Krishna Menon Indoor Stadium, here on Thursday, sent a Rs. 23 crore proposal for improving these roads.
These are the Pavamani Road, from Mavoor Road junction to Thondayad National Highway, from Stadium to Chinthavalappu junction, from Bank Road junction to beach Cross Road, P.T. Usha Road and Customs Road which are linking the National Highway and the Kozhikode Beach, Nadakkavu Cross Road, English Church Cross Road and Kozhikode Medical College - Karanthur Road.
The proposal is to set up traffic signals at a cost of Rs. 33 lakh.
The games committee would submit a separate proposal to the Kerala State Electricity Board, the Collector said.
Ms. Latha said that the games committee chief executive engineer had given an assurance that the work on the ground floor, yard and first floor of the Corporation Stadium would be completed by October 15.
The football ground would be ready by September 30. The laying of grass would be completed by August 25, she said.
Separate gates would be set up for dignitaries, sports personalities, media persons and officials at the stadium.
Speaking on the occasion, A. Pradeepkumar, MLA, said that steps would be taken to improve facilities at Malabar Christian College ground and Zamorin’s Higher Secondary School ground for training. The Kozhikode Medical College ground would also be improved, he said.
The Traffic Department and the Public Works Department would submit a report on the space available for parking at the national games.
All billboards and hoardings dangerously installed in the city would be removed on a war footing basis.
The existing footbridge in front of the V.K. Krishna Menon Indoor Stadium would be removed and a ramp would be constructed at the Jaffer Khan Road.
The Collector said the road inside the Medical College campus would be renovated. Traders would be asked to install colour combinations boards.
National Games Chief Engineer Mohan Kumar, Executive Engineer Kishen Chand, Additional Divisional Magistrate K. Radhakrishnan and officials attached to the Police Department, PWD and Kozhikode Corporation participated in the meeting.
