Chembur police have identified the man who allegedly visited Chitra Salunke on Tuesday evening and threatened her to go slow or withdraw from the DIG Sunil Paraskar case.
Salunke, lawyer of the victim in the case, had registered a complaint in this regard. The police are also scanning the CCTV footage that was provided by the complainant. The footage shows the man coming in and walking out of her residential building.
The police have identified the man who allegedly visited Salunke at her apartment in Chembur as Deepak Gupta. They, however, are not ready to divulge any details about Gupta apart from the fact that he had been booked by Govandi police a few years back.
"He identified himself to Salunke as Deepak Sharma, but we have figured out that his name is Deepak Gupta. We are collecting more details about the accused," said a source in Chembur police station.
In her complaint to the police, Salunke alleged that a man had called her and asked her for an appointment. Salunke told him to visit her residence. As soon he came, he told her that he is very close to Paraskar and she should go slow on the case or withdraw from it.
"I was offered money to withdraw from the case, following which I told the man to leave my residence. I have submitted a CCTV footage showing the man to the police," said Salunke.
"I have also recorded the entire conversation with the man on my maid's cell phone and also on the constable's cell phone which is provided to me as security by Mumbai police," she added.
Deputy commissioner of police Dhananjay Kulkarni, who is the spokesperson of Mumbai police, said: "The man has been identified as Deepak Gupta and we are carrying out our investigations."
Meanwhile, appearing on behalf of the officer, advocate Rizwan Merchant on Thursday submitted his reply on the Perjury case filed by advocate Salunke against Paraskar.
Merchant in his reply claimed that there could have been some misunderstanding; however, at no point of time, he claimed, as per his client, the victim was arrested or involved in the alleged escort service case.
"In the anticipatory bail application of Paraskar, I have never uttered a word of her being involved in any such case or she being being slapped with Prevention of Immoral Trafficking Act (PITA) charges," said Merchant.
The court, after hearing the arguments advanced by Merchant, posted the orders in the perjury case to Friday.
