Politician’s son, two others accused of raping 22-year-old

Ramanagar police have arrested three persons including the son of a politician on charges of gang-raping a 22- year-old woman at a farmhouse near on the outskirts of the city on Wednesday night-Thursday morning.

Two of the accused — Arun Kumar Gowda (24) of Agalakote near Magadi and his friend Kempa (31) of Agalakote Handpost — had allegedly abducted the girl from Majestic area and had taken her to the farmhouse where they raped her. Later that night, the victim was again allegedly raped by Mahadeva (45) of Mandya, the caretaker of the farmhouse. Gowda is the son of Narasimhamurthy, a politician and also director of Karnataka Milk Federation (KMF). Kempa is a close friend of Gowda.

Police say Gowda and Kempa had picked up the victim, who works as a sales woman in a textile shop near Majestic, at around 9.30 pm on Wednesday. She was waiting for a bus when the duo approached in a car and promised to her drop her at her residence in Vijayanagar. But the duo instead took her to the farmhouse near Tippagondanahalli.

The woman managed to escape from the farmhouse in the small hours on Thursday and was spotted by a passing cab driver. Sensing something was amiss, the cabbie took her to the Tavarekere police station, the jurisdictional police, where the victim filed a complaint. The complaint was filed at around 5 am and within hours, police arrested all three accused.

The victim underwent a medical examination. Police have seized the car in which the woman was allegedly abducted. They claim the farmhouse does not belong to any of the accused. Investigations are on.
